That's the problem will all your comments in general !
All of your opinions are based around what you personally experience in your limited field of expertise. And you totally disregard what the rest of the IT industry is doing (ala retail, wholesale and gaming etc).
So just because your clients are finding alternatives (usually upon your advice) to MS, doesn't mean MS are going into receivership !
Unfortunately, MS continually do the opposite
Too bloody true ! Someone in marketing must know something we don't because they continually do it. Not just with software but hardware too !

As for the marketing of VU, smart consumers should not have based their purchases on the 'brochure', rather should have paid heed to all the media reviews advocating Vista Home Premium as best option. I paid about $200 for the 'upgrade' which allowed to you to do a 'full' new install (remember that loophole ?).
but to again see how MS screws the release of another OS.
I think this is a little presumptuous and harsh. Lets wait for the RTM before it is roundly criticised. Reading a lot of tidbits suggests that MS may have heard all the outrage created with the marketing of Vista and de-hyped some of the wild expectations.
2GB of RAM as the rest will be wasted on a 32bit OS.
Agreed but the 32-Bit OS will still see about 3 Gig, and RAM is dirt cheap 2 x 2 GIG sticks of DDR2 will cost about $85.00 (2 Gig stick is $65.00)
AMD are not competitive in the CPU count
Agreed ! .. AMD are still screwing around with 65 nm process (intel have perfected 45 nm) with 6 MB of onboard cache !
OS, Vista HP or Ultimate X64
THE OS of choice for gaming ..................... It has NO peers :)
For the video, a single or pair of 4870X2's will be the cream in the bun.
I'd go for NVidia GTX280, the forums are full of ATI Radeon driver problems right now ! (Juts visit AMD/ATI own website forums and look at the issues with the 4870 alone)

And $3000 should get you an uber rig with plenty of leftovers for a great night out !

And definitely buy a copy of Australia premier gaming mag 'PCPowerplay'

Your tag says death to MS, so I'm assuming you want to game with Linux ? ........ Best of luck to you ;-)

If you do decide to go to the darkside then I suggest a Core 2 Duo CPU, the E8500 is the best bang for buck at the moment. 32-Bit OS's will only see about 3 Gig of RAM depending on how much onboard RAM you have on your Graphics card. There not too many games coded for quad core so money would be wasted.

If you are interested, buy a copy of PCPowerplay and check the gaming rigs recommended in that reputable Australian Mag.
Windows is just a brand and a business model, not an actual unique technology.
Windows may not be a unique technology but even the staunchest MS hater out there will admit that it has brought the GUI to the masses. Certainly no other could do this before Windows 3.0 hit the streets. Of course MS pilfered the 'technology' but it was MS that made it acceptable by the masses.

And lets face it, even the Linux distros have included and produced more eye candy for their distros in the last 5 years.

And as a brand, it is now up there with Coca-Cola. As a business model, I would suggest there are plenty of businesses out there that wished it has the reserves to draw upon in this global economic climate.

So hey ! Lets give a little kudos to Bill and Co. when it is deserved.

You maybe free of Windows Aubrey but you cannot escape using in this 'Windows World'.

Hardware drivers have always been, and will always be, the bane of Linux. Even the current drivers for nVidia GPU's for Linux is a hit and miss affair for some of the distros. Don't even think about LAN/Internet gaming on a Linux rig ! It's just a waste of time and effort.

I'm not too sure why you are so angry !

- You asked MS for a solution to a problem you are having.
- MS identified the problem.
- Provided a couple of options to resolve your issue.

MS is under no obligation to support Linux, although I'm sure they will in time.

I just wonder how Ubuntu support would react if I were to complain about IE7 performance under 8.10 ? (I know this is very speculative, but you get my point)

More unfounded generalisations from the master himself!
Moderators do a great job on the ABC website. And they have post numbers in far greater numbers then this local rag site.
APC staff should be performing the moderation role, who pays for their time to do this
It is interesting that the author and/or APC have stayed so silent on this allegation of poor reportage. And that Raindog has appointed himself as the defender of this piece of cheap journalism. That is the denigration they deserve. To have Raindog as the pitbull out front and defending a poor piece of news reportage.

Why should APC be free from criticism. It seems that by being exposed to a public forum they need to be advised, and tersely if need be, that their standards are dropping.
