Samsung unveils massive 17.3-inch notebook with doof doof speakers

Massive Samsung notebook has huge screen and discrete graphics and unusually powerful speakers for a notebook.

Samsung makes some nice laptops; I am particularly fond of its tiny netbooks. To balance things out a bit Samsung has announced a new and massive screened notebook called the R720. The huge machine is far from what I would consider portable with its 17.3-inch screen, but multimedia fans should be happy.

The big screen support HD resolution graphics and your movies should sound as good as they look with enhanced 3D SRS sound. The machine runs an Intel Centrino 2 processor and a discrete ATI Radeon HD 4650 GPU.

The big 17.3-inch screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio and the sound system has 4-watt stereo speakers and a dedicated subwoofer. Hopefully that means that there will be some bass in movies (I like to hear the explosions!) With a screen as large as the R720 sports, there is plenty of room for a suitably large keyboard. In this case, the keyboard is obviously full size -- including separate numeric keypad. The machine will run Windows Vista Home Premium and will launch in the UK in July at an undisclosed price. There's no word yet on Australian pricing or availability.

Doof,Doof ? Where would all this doof be coming from with only 4watts/ speaker ? I mean really the doof doesn't begin to hit unless you have at least 20watts/speaker and I can't see anybody making a notebook that can handle that anytime soon :) I've just upgraded to a Altec Lansing MX5021-THX 2.1 speaker system rated at 90watts RMS. I reckon there'll be enough doof in that to keep me happy for awhile :)

I got the same Altec Lansing speakers about a year and a half ago, I really like them.

As far as I know there are a few laptops out there claiming "subwoofers" in them and while I havn't heard them it soounds more like pure marketing than anything else. Personally I'd much rather spend a bit on some reasonable quality headphones for mobile use or plug them into some proper speakers if it's an option.

Wow! this you beaut of computer is nice, I remember DELL did made a similar size of notebook computer a few years ago called "Inspiron 9400".
If this machine would be sold here in Australia I would like it to include in my wish list if Santa Claus comes to my place and give me one for Christmas.
