The candybar-shaped Pearl follows the Curve and Bold in getting a stylish makeover, and a 3G radio lurks under the slick black covers.

RIM is moving to complete the makeover of its BlackBerry lines with the consumer-minded Pearl 9100.

After floating around under the Stratus and Striker codenames, the Pearl 9100 broke cover this week with a series of spy shots at CrackBerry.com.

These reveal the new Pearl 9100 loses the trackball for the same touch-sensitive trackpad as the Curve 8520 and the Bold 9000.

The chassis follows the same design shift towards black  for a more modern and professional look, along with a slightly redesigned keyboard.

Also new to the mix: the formerly GSM-only Pearl now sports 3G and will of course run the latest BlackBerry  5.0 OS.

All that we’re waiting for now is an announcement on the local release of the touchscreen Storm 2, aka Storm 9520 – and a launch date for the Australian version of RIM’s BlackBerry App World app store wouldn’t go astray either...
