Following a surprise appearance at last week’s Windows 7 launch, more details are revealed about the unique design of Dell’s ultra-thin Adamo XPS.
It can be hard to impress jaded tech journalists but Dell did just that during last week’s Windows 7 launch with the super-skinny
Adamo XPS notebook.
The MacBook Air-beating laptop was briefly showcased in a parade of killer kit from Microsoft’s hand-picked OEM partners.
Microsoft’s Jeff Putt and Dell’s ANZ Retail Sales Director Matthew Telfer provide the first public glimpse of the Adamo XPS
Claimed to be the world’s thinnest laptop the Adamo XPS drew oohs, ahhs, whistles and wows from the media for its extraordinary 1cm profile.
Is is a laptop or a fancy serving plate? Dell’s Matthew Telfer could lay out a spread of sushi on the
1cm thin Adamo XPS and no-one would be the wiser
While this sneak peek is as close as most local tech press have gotten to the second-gen Adamo, it’s already made the rounds of selected US media.
Pics of the laptop reveal its unique design where the keyboard is hinged a few inches up from the base of the screen, so that it sits at a roughly 50 degree incline when opened.
The unique and undeniably eye-catching design of the Adamo XPS: good for desks, not so much for laps...
This will no doubt look stunning on any executive’s desktop, however it seems totally impractical for use on your lap.
When closed the keyboard folds under the 13.3 inch screen and seems to fit into a slight recess around the bezel, so that the upper edge of the screen – the portion containing the mandatory webcam – extends past the keyboard.
Under its the aluminium shell the Adamo XPS is tipped to contain an ultra low voltage Core 2 Duo processor clocking at either 1.4GHz or 1.6GHz, a 128GB solid state drive (of course) and 4GB of RAM.
Battery options are rumoured to be 20Wh for 2.5 hours or 40Wh for four hours, although it’s not known how the larger cell will change the shape of the XPS. The starting price is still US$2,000.
