A new version of Airfoil allows synchronised streaming of audio from videos to Apple's Airport Express. No more out-of-lip-sync wireless sound!
A new version of Airfoil, the popular sound-sending utility from Rogue Amoeba has just gone live for Mac users. Airfoil 3 now lets you transmit any audio to multiple AirPort Express units which means you can send audio (not just from iTunes) from your Mac or PC to any number of Airport Express devices.
Airfoil 3 for Mac now also ships with two helper applications. The first is called Airfoil Speakers which effectively transforms your computer in to a virtual Airport Express - that means you can use Airfoil 3 to send music to another Mac on the same network as well as sending audio to other Airport Express devices.
The second is Airfoil Video Player that lets you send an audio track from a video to any Airport Express (or other computer running the Airfoil Speakers app). The Airfoil Video Player supports all of the most popular video formats, and even features preliminary DVD support.
Video sync: with Airfoil and an Airport Express, you can play a video soundtrack out of your computer as well as WiFi-connected speakers and keep the sound in perfect sync. |
Airfoil 3 has also received other smaller updates, including full Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) support, interface improvements, and simplified preferences. It's available now from here and runs on Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5. New users can purchase Airfoil through the Rogue Amoeba online store for $25 USD, while owners of Airfoil 2 can upgrade for just $10.
