Popular PVR-maker Topfield has unveiled a dual-tuner digital TV PVR with inbuilt WiFi to make it easy to download recordings to your PC. It can also download electronic program guides off the internet wirelessly.

Topfield has released an update to its stalwart dual-tuner digital PVR, adding WiFi connectivity and a 200GB hard drive.

The company said the addition of wireless networking to the new TF6000PVRt would allow automatic updating of the EPG using the third-party IceTV service.

The current model TF5000PVRt requires the rather inelegant solution of a standalone router connected via USB.

The networking will also allow control of recording timers over the internet.

"We have all been caught up at the office and forgotten to set our VCR or PVR to record our favorite show; now you can connect to your TF6000PVRt from work, or anywhere in the world and set your PVR to record," Topfield said today in a statement.

It'll also be possible to download TV recordings from the Topfield to your PC for playback over WiFi -- a feature which will certainly be of interest to PC enthusiasts who are interested in having the choice of watching PVR recordings either on a TV or PC monitor without having to leave a PC on.

The TF6000PVRt is on sale in Australia for $A1249 from "this week" and comes with a six month subscription to IceTV's EPG service (an independently compiled EPG that works around Australian commercial TV networks' refusal to freely release their EPG for electronic use.)

The 6000PVR is a standard def. box
The 7000PVR has the High Def. features.

Ian McLean:

No, it's SD only - really a 5000PVRt with WiFi.

The 7000 will be HD when or if it ever arrives!
