Vodafone, Optus and Telstra have all announced availability of Blackberry Connect software for Treo 650, finally bringing push-email and over-the-air calendar sync to the venerable Palm-based smartphone.

treo650-150.jpgIN BRIEF | Vodafone, Telstra and Optus have announced they are now offering a version of the Blackberry Connect software for Palm Treo 650s, finally bringing push email to the venerable PDA-phone.

The Treo 650 is the last model of phone released by Palm that actually runs the Palm OS, which is renowned for its easy user interface compared to later entrants in the market like Windows Mobile and Symbian.

The recently released Treo 700W runs Windows Mobile and has been panned by some critics for being harder to use than the 650. It has not been released in Australia.
According to Vodafone, the Blackberry Connect software for Treo 650 will work with Blackberry Enterprise Server coupled with either Exchange Server or Lotus Domino.

It allows for push email, over-the-air calendar synchronisation, viewing of attachments including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and PDF, and access to a corporate global address book.

Tony Hunt:

Treo 650 resets all the time. The Telco's are crazy to take support of this on.

Windows Mobile with ActiveSync is the way to go.

PB:

If you think resetting Treos are bad, try using a PPC phone all the time.

Blackberry is still the most efficient data device out there, by a few light years.
