VHA’s smartphone roadmap includes Samsung’s new Bada-powered Wave, Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10 Android handset and the BlackBerry Storm 2.

VHA is making a concerted push into the smartphone market with several new devices partnered to new capped plans.

The new plans will launch this Thursday, March 11th and start at $49/month for $350 talk and text plus 50MB of data, and top out at $129/month for unlimited national calls and SMS plus 4GB of data.

The first smartphone to land will be the second-gen BlackBerry Storm 9520 (aka Storm 2), available on both the Vodafone and 3 networks for $69/month including $450 of calls.

(VHA has also dropped the price of the chic white-clad Bold 9700, which can now be had on the $49/month plan with $350 of talk and text).

May will see the launch of Sony Ericsson’s first Android handset, the Xperia X10 (shown above) which sports a 4 inch screen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 8 megapixel camera. There’s no word on if this will be followed by the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro, which Sony Ericsson launched at last month’s Mobile Wold Congress.

May will also mark the debut of the Samsung Wave (shown above), the first smartphone built on the company’s new Bada platform. This is expected to be accompanied by the launch of the Samsung App store.

The X10 and Wave will both be available on Vodafone and 3, although specific plans and prices have yet to be announced.

djsflynn (APC staff):

VHA is the new company created through the merger of Vodafone and 3 (3 being the brand of Hutchison, hence VHA stands for Vodafone Hutchison Australia). Vodafone and Hutch each hold 50% in the company, although their networks remain separate at this stage.
