If you want to swap a SIM card out of a modem and use it in a mobile phone ... or use Windows/OS X's inbuilt dialup software rather than the ratty proprietary stuff provided by your mobile network, you'll need to know these settings.

A note for Mac users: Mac OS X comes with a pretty outdated set of dialup modem scripts that don't cater for the wide variety of handsets out there today. However, one script warrior in the UK, Ross Barkman, has hacked together his own very comprehensive set of scripts. Check them out.
