If you've been clamoring to watch more poor quality video of Britney Spears trying to escape from a media scrum you'll love the latest mobile software from YouTube.
If you've been clamoring to watch more poor quality video of Britney Spears trying to escape from a media scrum you'll love the latest play from YouTube. It's a YouTube application for your mobile, lovingly crafted with Java.
While iPhone and iPod Touch users have a built-in YouTube client other mobile phone owners have had to suffer with the simplified web interface at m.youtube.com.
But now, thanks to an upgrade, all users can enjoy a "richer" experience and a "full assortment of the tens of millions of videos that YouTube fans around the world have come to know and love."
You'll also be able to log into your own YouTube account and do everything you're used to, like rating and commenting on videos and contributing to YouTube by uploading videos (assuming your phone supports this feature).
For users with capable mobile Jave phones (YouTube lists the following: Sony Ericsson K800 and W880 or Nokia E65, N95, N73, 6110 Navigator, and 6120 Classic) there's even a little YouTube app to download that provides all the features of the m.youtube.com but in a slick, easy-to-use interface.
Warning: Downloading lots of data on your mobile phone may get expensive. Consider yourself warned. |
When you log on to YouTube Mobile you'll be greeted with an ominous warning - 'YouTube Mobile is a data intensive application. We highly recommend that you upgrade to an unlimited data plan with your mobile service provider to avoid additional charges'.
In Australia, an unlimited data plan for mobile doesn't really exist, but check out Virgin Mobiles $10 for 300MB plan if you're interested.
You can even search for a video |
You can also access favourites, and your account too |
The rest of the interface is familiar and clear, and YouTube has done a good job compressing content to fit on small mobile phone screens. Like with any broadband the faster your Internet connection, the better your experience will be.
